Happy October Piano Players!
Even at my advanced age, when I think October, I think Halloween! And all the spooky music that heightens the holiday to its most macabre, is so fun to play. Today I offer you Chopin's Funeral March, a theme you have probably heard in commercials, movies and cartoons. This theme was actually played at Chopin's funeral, and according to Wikipedia, "...was also performed at the state funerals of John F. Kennedy, Sir Winston Churchill, Margaret Thatcher, Queen Elizabeth...and Leonid Brezhnev!"
You have 1 year to print my free sheet music below, so print today!
Advanced pianists, here is the original sheet music:
My simplified arrangement originally was published in my book called Songs of the Seasons: AUTUMN - Fun, Easy Arrangements of Seasonal Songs and Pieces available on Amazon.
Do you have a favorite piece to play or listen to for Halloween? I love to listen to all Chopin's minor key Nocturnes, and of course Bach's Toccata and Fugue. I just saw Beetlejuice Beetlejuice at my local theater and loved hearing Tim Burton's dark score plus some fun old songs. There is a really fun dance scene involving a train (from our childhood years!), but I don't want to ruin it for you, so go see it for yourself! It's a super fun Halloween movie if you want to get in the spirit of the holiday 🧟 🧟♀️ 🧟♂️
Next month I will be posting a great old standard by Cole Porter, called Let's Do It (Let's Fall in Love). I have arranged it for women to sing and play, and have arranged it for men to sing and play, too. And soon I will be posting a video lesson on 6th, 7th and 9th chords. So if you haven't yet, please subscribe to this blog to receive word of my free sheet music, video demonstrations and practice tips, in you email box each month!
I have been getting inquiries about the best keyboards to buy, so I'm going to make suggestions soon. Do you have a good digital keyboard you like with a good piano sound? Let us know in the comments below. And tell us what you are currently playing so we can support your progress! I sure love to hear from you! 🤍🤍🤍
With love and (spooky) music, Gaili
