Hi Piano Pals
Sorry for the delay in sending out my May free sheet music! My husband and I were out of town enjoying the California coast, a vacation I really needed after a very busy March and April. I hope you'll feel it was worth your wait when you download and print my arrangement of the old standard, Dream A Little Dream
of Me. You might have heard Mama Cass, Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, or Michael Bublé sing it. It's got a great melody and interesting chords that do sound dreamy! It's also one of my favorite songs to sing in French, ooo la la! I have arranged Dream A Little Dream Of Me for the intermediate piano player. Beginners, you can play the treble melody line. Watch my demonstration video below to help you learn the rhythm.
Notice I have used a favorite left hand technique in this arrangement where I play a whole chord on beat 1, then hold the tied bottom note down as I repeat the top notes in beat 2. When you hold down the bottom note it sounds smoother than if you repeated the full chord in the next beat. Playing a chord on each of the 4 beats, creates a nice bouncy rhythm that simulates a guitar or ukulele. Notice that the bottom bass chord notes are tied moving from beats 1 to 2, and often from beats 3 to 4, but are never tied between beats 2 and 3.
Also, As an introduction, I am playing the left hand from the first two measures through twice. Here is my demonstration video:
I hope you enjoy playing Dream A Little Dream of Me this month. With the US embattled at home and abroad, perhaps playing music and holding onto our little dreams are our best defense against despair.
Please leave a comment below and tell us what you are playing right now. We would love to support your practice!
With love and music, Gaili
P.S.If you are new to this blog, welcome! I post free sheet music every month, arranged for beginning to intermediate piano students, plus worksheets, practice tips and information on music and the brain. I have written piano instruction books for older adults (UpperHandsPiano.com), younger adults and teens (called Piano Powered), Songs of the Seasons piano sheet music books for seasonal classical and popular favorites, and my latest piano/guitar/vocals books called The Music Remedy: sheet music collections to restore and revitalize the spirit.
In her review of my Upper Hands Piano BOOK 1 for Clavier Companion, The Piano Magazine (May/June 2016), Susan Geffen writes: “Upper Hands Piano, Gaili Schoen’s comprehensive method for adults over fifty, is so good and so original that it’s difficult to know where to begin. With the expert selection of repertoire? Or perhaps with Schoen’s emphasis on the mental benefits of playing the piano? Or maybe with her friendly, encouraging tone? And certainly her well-considered approach to harmony is worth mention.”
I hope you will check out my books on the links above as book sales support this blog and make my giveaways possible. Thanks so much for your support!

Thank you Gaili. I really look forward to the new music each month. I am still enjoying playing Clair de Lune, Maple Leaf Rag, Wild Rover, among others, from your previous mail outs. I am almost 77 and started taking lessons on my 70th birthday! I enjoy it so much. Best wishes, Sue
